KC Canlubang gifts 110 kids in Calamba
The Kiwanis Club of Canlubang, Inc. played Santa Claus to 110 youngsters aged 3 to 5 from Brgy. Masili, Calamba, Laguna last Dec 29, 2009 by giving them food and gift packs as part of the Project:Maligayang Pasko mula sa Kiwanis financed mainly by the Laguna Aid Fund.
Masili, a community by the shore of Laguna Lake with a population of 4,688 was submerged after typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng struck the Philippines last Sept. and Oct. 2009, respectively. Many families were severely affected and evacuated in schools and covered courts for their safety. Even after returning to their homes early in December 2009, they still need help and support from the government and NGOs to start anew and go on with their lives and livelihood.
"Upon reaching the covered court of Barangay Masili, we saw the residents all ready and with wide smiles as they welcomed us", Dr. Vernie Labro, KC Canlubang president related. "The Brgy Health Workers helped us in the orderly distribution of the food and gift packs to the children. They were all very happy and excited about it. The activity was very fulfilling and a very joyous event. Sharing and Giving ------- that's the KIWANIS WAY ------KIWANIS LIFE", she added.
The Laguna Aid Fund was raised by the Kiwanis Clubs of Div 3 of the California-Nevada-Hawaii district - KC Fil_Am Glendale, KC Glendale, KC La Canada and KC Greater Highland Park.
